I create stories with fabric. Images, bits, bytes and text all woven to create a historical and visual story—snapshots of our past connected physically by threads but emotionally through shared experiences. Quilts have been a part of my life since I was born and wrapped in a quilt that was hand-sewn by my great grandmother. Early years spent helping thread her needles and find matching scraps of fabrics for her quilt patterns earned me the honor of being schooled by her in the art of sewing. I inherited her love of creating things with my hands as well as her gift of storytelling. These kindred arts stir within me and invite those who hunger for knowledge of historical injustice, inequality, and abandonment to feast on the patterns and fabrics that provide visual, emotional and intellectual sustenance.
